PLANET EARTH POETRY: 2018 WORKSHOP

MICHELINE MAYLOR


Past Poet Laureate of Calgary, Dr. Micheline Maylor teaches creative writing at Mount Royal University. A much-awarded teacher, editor, and poet, her latest book, Little Wildhearts, was longlisted for both the Pat Lowther and the Raymond Souster Awards.


FORMALISM AND THE WITNESS


A three-part workshop tracing  aspects of witnessing:

  1. Cultivating Closeness (close scrutiny to glean detail and create imagery for the reader)

  2. Cultivating the witness (being present, awareness without judgement)

  3. Witnessing the ordinary: (meditative observation, “haiku mind”)


DATE/TIME:  October 20, 3.5 hours plus lunch break, from 10:00-2:30.


LOCATION: Oak Bay Recreation Centre, small upstairs lounge. 1975 Bee Street. Participants may purchase snacks/lunch/coffee in adjoining rec centre lounge café or go for lunch in nearby restaurants.

*Please note, no outside food/beverage to be brought in.


REGISTRATION:  $65:00. Registration opens October 1.
